PROGRAM SCOPE
It is anticipated that course participants will become familiar with the ANSI/IIAR 7-2019 American National Standard for Developing Operating Procedures for Closed-Circuit Ammonia Refrigeration Systems and be able to apply those requirements to a safely installed and operated refrigeration system.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
This course is intended to serve as continuing education for industrial refrigeration professionals whose job responsibilities include documentation of procedures and safe operation of closed-circuit ammonia refrigeration systems. This audience would include plant managers, maintenance directors and supervisors, designers, engineering managers, facilities engineers, facility managers, service technicians, mechanical engineers, and refrigeration engineers, as well as employees who focus on regulatory requirements for ammonia refrigeration systems.
HOW IT WORKS
The IIAR 7 Certificate course includes five training sessions, each approximately 40 minutes long, delivered as a PowerPoint presentation with lecture. At the end of each module, learners must successfully complete a short quiz to check your comprehension of the material. To receive a certificate and continuing education credit, participants will be required to pass all quizzes as well as a final course examination, which is included in the course registration fee.
FINAL EXAM
The final course examination is administered online. Qualified registrants MUST have paid their Certificate Course tuition and MUST have successfully completed all Quick Check Quizzes (at least 80% correct on all quizzes).
COURSE REQUISITES
We recommend these minimum requirements for individuals interested in participating in this program:
* General knowledge of the physical properties of ammonia
* Familiarity with design, operation, and maintenance of closed-circuit ammonia refrigeration systems
* Working knowledge regarding equipment that may be employed in operational closed-circuit ammonia refrigeration systems
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing the IIAR 7 Certificate Course, learners will be able to:
· List the regulatory requirements that drive development of operating procedures
· List the purposes served by operating procedures
· Describe the characteristics and contents of well-designed operating procedures
· Identify activities that must be documented by operating procedures
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
After completing an IIAR Academy of Natural Refrigeration certificate course, successfully completing the accompanying quizzes, and passing the final course exam, you will earn the corresponding number of continuing education credits, which can be applied toward maintaining P.E. licensure. IIAR is accredited by the Registered Continuing Education Program for Engineers, Surveyors & A/E/C Professionals (RCEP) as an approved provider of continuing education.
The IIAR 7 certificate course offers 3.25 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for learners who successfully complete the course.
Module 1
Background
Module 1 module reviews the regulatory requirements that drive development of operating procedures, as well as the purposes served by operating procedures. We’ll also point out the characteristics and contents of well-designed operating procedures and review some safety and health considerations when it comes to working around ammonia.
Module 2
Purpose and Scope/Definitions and Reference Standards (Chapters 1-4)
The second module in the IIAR 7 certificate course looks at the purpose and scope of IIAR 7, including which activities must be documented by operating procedures. We’ll identify definitions and reference standards applicable to IIAR 7, highlight the importance of documenting procedures for personal protective equipment (PPE), and discuss procedures related to OSHA’s safe work practices.
Module 3
Maintaining Operating Procedures/Developing Procedures for Compressors and Refrigerant Pumps (Chapters 5-7)
In this module we take a look at maintaining operating procedures so that your facility is safe and in compliance with federal regulations. We’ll also delve into best practices for developing operating procedures for compressors and refrigerant pumps.
Module 4
Developing Procedures for Condensers, Evaporators, Pressure Vessels, and Noncondensable Gas Purgers (Chapters 8-11)
Module 4 continues with equipment-specific information with an examination of operating procedures for condensers, evaporators, pressure vessels, and noncondensable gas purgers.
Module 5
Developing Procedures for Oil Removal Devices, Safety Systems, and Tasks/Documentation, Systems, and References (Chapters 12-14; Appendices B-D)
The course winds up with guidance regarding procedures for oil removal devices, safety systems, and tasks. We also review the informative content found in the IIAR 7 appendices, which includes non-mandatory recommendations for documentation and a discussion of system operating procedures.
